Single Trip vs Annual Car Hire Insurance

Find out the difference between single trip and annual car hire excess insurance.

Although there are differences in the levels of cover (more on that below), but the key difference is that with a single trip policy, you’ll have to take out a new policy every time you get a new car rental agreement.

Annual car hire excess insurance policies, on the other hand, allow you to cover your excess for up to 60 days at a time as many times as you like over the course of 12 months. You won’t need to take out more than one policy - just pay once and you’re covered for the year.

Level of cover

Our single trip and annual car excess insurance policies offer slightly different levels of protection. It's therefore important you check the policy cover before you buy to ensure you have the correct cover in place for you car hire adventure.

Which is Cheaper: Single Trip or Annual Car Hire Excess Insurance?

At insurance4carhire, our single trip excess policy is generally more cost effective if you are hiring a car for less than 14 days (or 11 days if only travelling in Europe) and you will not be hiring a car again within the year.*

However, if your car rental is for longer than 14 days worldwide (or more than 11 days if in Europe only), or you’re renting a car again in the same year, our annual policies will usually be better value.

*Based on the Daily/Single Trip policy price being £12.79 for the first three days and £4.59 per day for additional days, Annual Europe price being £46.99 per year, and Annual Worldwide price being £59.99 per year.
